We’ve Gone From Pro to Euro Pro
Somewhat exciting news from the world of District Velocity Racing — yesterday we formally incorporated as a non-profit in the District of Columbia. Over the course of the year we navigated the internal machine known as the District’s bureaucracy so we could become something more than just a bunch of guys that ride bikes. Now, courtesy of the little certificate pictured here, we’re a bunch of guys that ride bikes and have Articles of Incorporation, bylaws, board members and an obligation to fess up to the feds as to what we do with our money. Ummm, yay?
But seriously, it’s all part of growing into the sport we love and taking steps to make sure we can host races and other events, work more actively to promote cycling, and so on. And now that we’re legal and all, we’ll start planning our hostile takeover of other local teams. NCVC, you’re first.
In the next few months, we’ll be rolling out a new kit, announcing our 2010 sponsors, setting off to the wilds of an undosclosed location for training camp and, eventually, racing again. We’re just over two months from the Trade Zone training races, which we plan on thoroughly dominating. These are A races, people, and you can be sure that I’ll be peaking.
UPDATE: I’d be remiss in not mentioning that we worked with a Notary Public that met us at a bar so we could sign all the paperwork. Yep, that’s fish tacos and beer in the background of the picture below. The Founding Fathers did their work in Philadelphia, we do it at the Red Derby.
