Race Report: Tour of Washington County
Since I’m still recovering from the thorough baking I suffered in the weekend weather, I’ll keep the race report short and sweet. And bullet-pointed. Everyone loves the bullet points.
- In the Cat 4 race, Corey took ninth and Tom S. 10th on GC. Nicely done, men.
- In the Cat 3 race, Sam claimed ninth on GC. Nicely done, man.
- One particular highlight may have been seeing Chas lead the Cat 4 field around the crit course for the better part of, well, almost the whole race. It was up to us to chase down a break, and Chas did his damnedest to bring it it back.
- Matt came this close (imagine me holding my fingers real close together) to finishing in the top 5 in the road race on a brave/insane solo breakaway. He was caught with 500 meters to go.
- Kevin came this close (imagine me holding my fingers real close together) to catching the two-man break in the Cat 3 crit.
- We dined at an excellent strip-mall steakhouse just down the road from the Outback. We knew we were in the right place when we saw the beer prices. 75-cent Keystone Lights on Wednesdays? Guess who’s skipping Greenbelt this week and heading to Hagerstown?
- AVC did an excellent job putting on a fantastic race. I still think the TT should be Eddy Merckx-style (call it self-interest; I’m not putting thousands into TT gear), but other than that, the whole weekend was superb.
- The free ice cream at the crit essentially made the whole thing come together perfectly, I think.
Good job to everyone who raced, and congrats to those that won or placed high on GC standings.
